Y’all. It. Was. Amazing! If you have never been on this Rendezvous, you are truly missing out. I didn’t think it would be as fun as it was, and what a pleasant surprise. We left the Daniel Island Marina at around 11 am and saw so many beautiful sceneries including downtown Charleston. I have been downtown, I have walked the battery, but this past weekend I was able to see it from a whole new perspective! Yes, it rained on us but it wasn’t too bad at all. Here is a picture of the sky while we were tubing. (No, we weren’t the smartest people on the water, but what fun would that have been?)
While on our journey through the South Carolina Intercoastal Waterways, we saw an alligator, two pods of dolphins, and plenty of lightning. I have to say, I definitely enjoyed the dolphins the most. Y’all have to remember, I have literally only ever seen dolphins at SeaWorld. I got to see so many and Hector was nice enough to stop the boat for me to watch them while they hunted. It was a truly extraordinary experience seeing them. I know most of y’all are probably like, “Yeah, we see dolphins all the time. Whatever,” but I basically acted like I was seeing a unicorn (because that’s how rare they have been to me). I am so excited for future trips where I can see more of them. I also want to sell you a little bit because the Robalo R226 Cayman truly cut through the water, provided a smooth ride, and proved to be easily navigated through the marsh while we were fishing.
When we got to the Sea Island Inn, we were immediately greeted with chilled towels, snacks, and beverages. It was wonderful. We had been on the water for most of the day so this was the perfect thing to help us relax. They are remarkable at making you feel like you’re home. We ate at the Old Bull that night (if you’d like to eat there, you have to make reservations!) and it was just exquisite. Everyone suggested the lamb, so that is exactly what we got. It fell right off the bone and was quite possibly one of the best meals I have ever had. That in combination with the garlic shrimp appetizer, the truffle mashed potatoes, and the tiramesu, it was just such a wonderful meal. I was sad that I was full or I would have eaten it all over again! Okay, I have to move on because I am making myself hungry.
The second day is a free day to go shopping in Beaufort, visit Hilton Head, or, like me, go fishing! I haven’t been fishing in about 15 years (and I am only 22 so that is saying something). Y’all, as excited as I was for the dolphins, I was evenly excited about fishing. I don’t quite know why, but I just love the thrill of feeling the bite, or in my case, the pinch. A crab was playing around with us when we were trying to fish in the marsh. Trust me, I will have better fishing stories as I get the hang of it (if anyone wants to take me fishing and teach me how its done, I will not object).
That night, our Rendezvous dinner was hosted at the Marketplace rooftop and it was very classy and relaxing after a full day of fun. We had spirits, friends, family, and the best chicken and mashed potatoes I have ever had. Yes I had mashed potatoes twice because who doesn’t love mashed potatoes. It was catered by Downtown Catering and it was so delicious that I think at least half of the group went back for seconds. We also had brownie bites and key lime pie minis for desert while listening to excellent music by Chris Crosby. The friends and family that gathered had so much fun and I wouldn’t disagree.
