Autumn angling in Charleston, South Carolina is something you shouldn’t miss! Fall is a reliable time to catch multiple species that are biting with more consistency inshore, offshore and near the shoreline. With the dog days of summer having ended, the water temperature is dropping causing fish to become more active. This time of year, schools of baitfish and shrimp are filling up the waters and the game fish are hungry so they aren’t far behind!
There are numerous fishing spots in Charleston that are only accessible by boat like Bulls, Capers, Dewees and Morris Island, which means it’s time to hop on your new boat or pre-owned boat and head out! Keep in mind, Lowcountry fisherman have claimed that Redfish, Flounder and Trout are the three most targeted species of fish for the season.
Go into the depths of the ocean in order to catch King Mackerel, Sea Bass, Vermilion Snapper and Grouper. Be ready to put your back into it for these big guys! As soon as you set your hook, they’ll head back into the reef for safety.
Inshore fishing is all about Speckled Trout, Redfish and Flounder. They’re hugging the oyster beds and grass lines searching for shrimp, minnows and crab.
Near the shoreline right off the beach, we’re catching a handful of Redfish, Black Drum, Cobia, Spanish Mackerel and Bonito! These fish require patience and a great cast to snag them.
No matter where you fish – the jetties, harbor, creek, offshore or rivers – just know what bait and rods you should be using to have an enjoyable, successful outing!
